Today the children in Year 5 and 6 visited the Streetwise Centre in Weymouth. At the centre fully trained volunteer Safety Guides took the children around the full size, bricks and mortar indoor village. At each of a number of pre-selected town and country scenarios, the group were encouraged to spot potential dangers, sharing and building on existing knowledge and experiences. Along with some interactive role-playing they learnt together how to be Safety Detectives for life!
The children spent up to two hours identifying possible risks and dangers for themselves and learning how to reduce the chance of having an accident. They learnt how to cope in an emergency, understand about consequences and the importance of making responsible choices for themselves through sharing and building on existing knowledge and experiences.
